What ?

Hackathons are a design sprint-like event in which data scientists, programmers and others involved in software development, including graphic designers, interface designers, project managers, and others, often including subject-matter-experts, collaborate intensively on software projects. The initiative #dataforbetterhealth brings business, technology, and medical professionals together to solve problems within the medical industry by combining the knowledge base of different specialties in an innovative environment.

In this hackathon, an anonymised version of the database “DOC PH” is provided by the National Institute for Health and Disability Insurance (NIHDI/RIZIV/INAMI). This dataset contains information about medication delivery in all Belgian hospitals, since 1994.

Two weeks before the hackathon (10.01.2019) , participants are invited for an information session about the objective, use and metadata of the database by the data managers of NIHDI. Participation (of one of the team members) to the information session is mandatory for participation in the hackathon. Alternatively, the info session is also available via streaming.
